Family Homestays, an integral part of the
Spanish learning experience

Since 1989, Juan Sisay has been perfecting its homestay family arrangements. We have refined our offerings to only the nicest and most reliable families in Xela. Based on student reviews, we only offer the friendliest families, the best locations, and the best overall experience.

The family homestay is an integral part of the total immersion experience. Students live in middle class Guatemalan homes near central Xela, and in close proximity to the school. Students will eat all of their meals with the family, and have great opportunities to converse in the afternoons and evenings. A family homestay offers a unique view into Guatemalan culture, food, and family life.

Each student residence offers clean private rooms with a key to the outside door. This gives students the freedom to come and go as they please, and allows plenty of space to get away from the family, study, and do your own thing.

Three healthy Guatemalan-style meals per day are included 7 days a week. Special eating arrangements can be made if neccessary. All rooms have access to purified water and clean restrooms.

What students have said about living with a family:

My homestay in Xela was fantastic, and it was a crucial part of my learning. The house was nice, the food was good, and the location was great, but the family was what made the experience. I spoke Spanish with the children and parents of the family every day, and we shared every meal. I cant imagine my time in Xela without my homestay, and I think it helped my Spanish a ton

- Jeremy Brenner, Student 2008

My homestay mom was really just like a mom to me. We spent so much time together and I practiced my Spanish with her more than anyone. We went shopping, drank wine, and did anything else together. She was also a great cook! I had an unbelievable experience in my homestay!
